BICYCLE HELMET SAFETY

Did you know that properly fitting helmets are the single most effective piece of safety equipment for riders of all ages who are involved in bicycle crashes?

More children between the ages of 5 to 14 are seen in the emergency room for bicycle related injuries than any other sport.

Helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injury by 88%

Unfortunately only 45% of children under age 14 usually wear a helmet.

Helmets aren’t just for kids.  As a matter of fact, middle-age adults represent the average age of bicycle riders who are injured or killed.  Even highly skilled riders are killed or injured.

89% of Bicycle fatalities are in riders over the age of 16.

Over 90% of bicycle related fatalities were in cyclists not wearing a helmet.
